The memory and the feast of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was honored and celebrated by Orthodox Christians yesterday Dec. 6, in churches across the country and the world. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America led the annual prayer and memorial service in the area of the World Trade Center near the site where the small historic church of St. Nicholas stood for more than 80 years before it was completely destroyed on September 11, 2001. Hurricane Sandy Relief Committee

In response to the tremendous destruction following Hurricane Sandy, a special committee was formed to coordinate the relief efforts within the Direct Archdiocesan District. This committee comprised of ladies from local chapters of our Direct Philoptochos Society and headed by the Chancellor, His Grace Bishop Andonios of Phasiane, has been working diligently to not only compile a list of those families impacted by the storm but also to offer assistance wherever needed. Signing of Agreement on the Rebuilding of St. Nicholas

The Governor of the State of New York Andrew Cuomo, announced yesterday at the Archdiocesan Council meeting, that the final agreement on the rebuilding of St. Nicholas was signed the day before, Oct. 18, 2012 and that the Port Authority would begin construction immediately hoping to complete the foundation in a year and then turn the site over to the Church. Saint Basil Academy 65th Commencement

Tour of St. Nicholas Future Site

Patrick J. Foye, Executive Director of the Port Authority welcomed Archbishop Demetrios and other representatives of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and the St. Nicholas parish. The meeting was held, June 6, at the offices of the Director for the WTC construction, Steven Plate, and included a comprehensive presentation of the planning and construction underway in the World Trade Center. The future site of St. Nicholas Church was a significant part of the presentation through architectural plans and virtual reality renderings. Full Article »
